Remembering Terezín Through Music
Toperczerová, Eliška ; Jurková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Seidlová, Veronika (referee)
Summary: This thesis focuses on a theme of musical remembrance of Terezín. It is an empirical, ethnomusicological field research. At its centre is František Tichý, headmaster of the Gymnázium Přírodní škola. I focuse on an analysis of his pedagogical, literary and dramatic activities, which I examine in the context of musical remembrance of Terezín. The aim of this research is to describe, analyze and to interpret by means of participating observation and semi-structured interviews: 1) How does the negotiation and production of performances take place, where František Tichý acts as a playwrighter, dramatist, director and musical dramatist in cooperation with his colleagues and pupils? 2) How does Frantisek Tichý contextualize and use music in the school projects of Gymnázium Přírodní škola? 3) How do these projects affect the construction of ideas about Terezín's history? Is there an alternative narrative generated by the use of artworks by Terezín authors, in which (above all) music becomes a means of remembering? In this research, I primarily follow the ethnomusicologist Zuzana Jurková, who focuses on remembrance as part of her research at the Faculty of Humanities. Key words: Ethnomusicology, Přírodní škola, František Tichý, remembrance, Terezín

Smitková, Klára ; Kocián, Jiří (advisor) ; Králová, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis is dedicated to the remembrance and nostalgia of the former Romanian communist regime and its long-time leader Nicolae Ceauşescu. The thesis first summarizes the basic reasons why the regime fell and then tries to draw a basic outline of the development in the field of remembering the former regime and Nicolae Ceauşescu. Then it tries to map how nostalgia for the regime has evolved over the years and what has been the cause of its changes. It also defines the factors that have influenced the growth of nostalgia over the years and its main features. The practical part of the thesis focuses on remembering and nostalgia in the digital space, specifically on social media. The main core of the whole thesis is research carried out on Twitter and Instagram, where, through sentiment analysis and multimodal analysis, the author analyses posts related to the regime and Nicolae Ceauşescu in order to determine their main characteristics and whether they show elements of nostalgia. Finally, she tries to portray the image that the communist regime of Nicolae Ceauşescu has today on social media.
Creating Memory in Public Broadcasting
Novotná, Petra ; Abu Ghosh, Yasar (advisor) ; Zandlová, Markéta (referee)
In my diploma thesis I describe the process, in which some episodes of the radio program Příběhy 20. století are made and with this example I explain, which factors can influence remembering in a medium of the public sphere and how "lieux de mémoire" occur in its broadcasting. I examine the recording of some of the narratives that can possibly be presented in the radio program, how the interviewers handle the interviewees and what motivation do they have to work in a project like this. I focus on how the stories are picked for the radio program, how are they edited, who takes part in the editing and how is it possible that they are in charge of it. My diploma thesis also includes a detailed description of the social position of Post Bellum organisation and its fundamental project Paměť národa, which are both closely connected to radio program Příběhy 20. století. In the conclusion of my thesis I deal with the fact, that this social position is one of the main elements in the process of memory making in public sphere medium, because it has an indirect impact on it. In my thesis I try to answer, what influence can the examined radio program (as part of institutionalized remembering and media communication) have on social memory.

Dog as a reminiscence stimulus.
Suková, Markéta ; Čížková, Hana (advisor) ; Dočkal, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis presents a basic insight into the issue of remembering and reminiscence, in order to plan, implement and evaluate the reminiscence program with canisterapeutical elements in Senior Residence Klamovka. The content is not only the theoretical basis, but above all the preparation process, the actual realization and the overall evaluation of a unique program of this type. There were six reminiscence meetings, the content of which was focused on the topic "dogs in my life". Indispensable subjects for the possible program testing were the reminiscence therapist, the canisterapeut, the author of the work and especially the clients of Senior Residence Klamovka, where everything was happening. The cycle of six reminiscence meetings with the use of a therapeutic dog ran from April to June 2017. After testing, it became clear that the selected themes with the use of a therapeutic dog were able to support a pleasant atmosphere during the meeting and the reminiscence of the seniors themselves. As a major shortcoming is to secure an adequate number of reminiscending people. Large numbers of attendees have often disrupted the harmony of the whole encounter.
Soundtrack of your life: Reminiscing in music bar Woodstock
Vopička, Jan ; Jurková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Seidlová, Veronika (referee)
Thematically this paper falls into the topic of second part of book being written by doc. Jurková Prague soundscapes, which looks into modes of remembering. This paper deals with one of these modes, which is music as medium of remembering. It is a case study, that inquires reminiscing of in-group of people, that formed around the year 2003 in music bar Woodstock in Prague. The central link for this group, or using the term of Thomas Turino, cultural cohort, was western popular music of the 1960s and bar, wher the group regularly met. The paper examines two levels that interconnect these memories and inquires what role does the music play in memories of the members now, when the bar has come through series of changes. The first one is remembering on indivudual level, remembering the times of discovering the 60s music, and second is the period of the "golden age" of the bar in it's beginning. There is an important distinction between two ways in which it is possible to look back though music - revival, which is by nature activist and nostalgia, which is passive. Theoretically, apart from classic Merriam's three part model, is this worke based on the concept of collective memory of Maurice Halbwachs. However, it diverts from radical Halbwachsian anti-individualism and with regard to more contemporary...
